There were these couple, they were tourists from Australia and they wanted to buy the pancakes. They asked the lady in English on how much was the pancake, apparently she couldn't understand them.
During that time I was there and I saw the whole thing, the couple were looking at me and they asked me to help them translate. I was puzzled on what made them think that I could help, nevertheless I am a person who never wanted to disappoint anybody, I therefore helped them. Trying my best to be composed and asked the pancake lady, in ENGLISH AGAIN, "How much?".
When the tourist couple heard it they couldn't stop laughing and they said hilariously "I can say that too!" My friends were also laughing at my ingenuous behaviour.
That was when the miracle happened, the pancake lady apparently she could understand me better and she showed me the dong note. I was surprised too, same language same word and meaning but said in different way can give different intepretation to others.
In summary, your english is good but it can be better by consumating it with a little bit of body language : )))
"hOW much?" is more simple and direct compare to "how much is the pancake?".
