Huck's Cafe

Sisters' gathering today and we decided to make our dinning more memorable by venturing to this big house converted into a Home cafe found in Jalan Gasing - Huck's Cafe. The warm lights litted double storey bungalow has just started business 3 months ago and the business hours starts from evening onwards. The concept is like private kitchen, underground dinning or closed door cafe where you get to try recipie that can't be found elsewhere.

From one look of the house can see the master is someone who is artistic, knows how to enjoy life to the fullest and somebody who loves collecting old stuffs. While waiting for the sisters to come, BL and me explored the surroundings. Outside the garden sitted a manmade Japanese style pond. Inside the living room is beautifully decorated with antique furnitures, a lifeless old gramophone and unused typewriter as the company.
A young boy came and leaded us to the table of five located outside the spacious wooden laid balcony. There were another 3 more big tables inside the house of which already filled up with guests.

The forever busybody BL was taking pictures wildly using her new toy iphone and I was busy being her model. After a while, the girls arrived the place glamorously.

The girls were so particular about this occassion and they literally put a lot of efforts in dressing up. First, LS wore sexy semi shoulderless black dress, the married but available Jac wore spaghetti, YT's dog bite cutting mini skirts and a red flower blossom from her head made her look like GAGA. AY and me not too bad as well, we were just being ourselves.

AY had made this reservation 3 weeks ago as it was hard to get a place especially in this festive season. This home cafe has limited capacity and therefore reservation is mandatory. That night, the menu was quite predetermined by the mysterious chef as he knows what is hot in market.

Starter: A refreshing drink Basil Seed Mint Soda, the tummy warmer sweet rich creamy Pumpkin and Mushroom soup. Main dishes are the house specialty Lemon Roast Chicken in a roasting tray (whole bird stuffed with garlic cloves, whole lemon, rosemany and thyme into the cavity of which I volunteered to cut and divide for the girls), Sealed with a Kiss (foiled cooked chicken breast marinated with thyme and white whine together with different mushrooms and potatoes) and also a wild rocket chicken chili spaghetti. Luckily the chef forgot about the salad as by the time we finished all the food, we were bloated and laid down on the chair like stone.
The irresistable desserts made us hungry again. We have Creme Brulee (the chef used flame to burn the top until the crispy brown sugar coated) and Chocolate Mud Pie Ice Cream. We completed our night with the aromatic Ahmad Earl Grey Tea.

The food were mouthwatering and the bill was a princely RM75 per pax.

Before we left the house, the man behind the kitchen- Huck came out and greeted us. His very manly look killed us many times. My first impression of him was he looks more like a fashion designer than a chef. He kept us warm by sharing his tales on how he started this cafe. I was surprised when he said he was not a trained chef and self learn cooking just to impress his 3 kids (Ya la! He's married *o*). This family man improvised his culinary along the way and now his cooking impressed many families and friends. Soon enough friends bring friends and the whole idea of home cafe was germinated.

Honestly speaking, I don't feel like myself going to a restaurant but more like visiting an old friend house. Like this place, a place that worths visiting again : )
